An Episode alternative with no gem-locked choices
Loreon is a good alternative to Episode if you want to type your own line instead of picking a written option, with no gem choices in the scene. It is not if you want Episode’s character customization or its far larger catalogue.
Every story is an authored world with a real arc. Free to start, in your browser or on Google Play.

| Loreon | Episode | |
|---|---|---|
| How you make a choice | Type anything your character says or does — suggestions are there when you want them | Pick one of the written options the chapter offers |
| Paid choices | None. No option is locked behind a currency — every path is open on any plan | Gem choices sit inside scenes, often on the romantic or dramatic branch |
| Waiting to continue | No chapter cooldown. Turns spend actions — a free daily allowance, more on a subscription | Passes gate chapters and refill on a cooldown unless you buy or subscribe |
| How the story remembers | The game tracks objectives, relationships and consequences — a slight ten scenes ago still lands | Scripted flags the author wrote in advance decide which lines you see later |
| Where the stories come from | A curated library of authored worlds, illustrated in each world’s own style | A very large community catalogue, mostly written by other players |
What typing your own line looks like
A scene where the written options would be "apologise" or "walk out" — and the player does neither:
YouI don’t answer him. I pick up the invitation off the table, read the name of the second guest out loud, and wait.
The name lands in the room like a dropped glass. Dominic’s hand stops on the back of the chair — not a flinch, just a stillness that arrives a half-second too late. "That’s an old list," he says. It is not an old list; the ink on the date is barely dry, and you are both looking at it.
YouAsk him, gently, how long he was going to let me get dressed for it.
Gently is worse than shouting and you both know it. He sits down without being asked, which is its own answer. "Until Thursday," he says. Something has shifted between you that no apology reaches — and Ilse, whoever she is, is now a person you are going to meet.
Nothing in that exchange was a listed option, and none of it cost a gem. The story took the line you wrote and carried the consequence forward.
Why Episode players switch
- Say the thing you actually wanted to say The strongest moment in a scene is usually the one that wasn’t offered. Type it and the narrator answers — no waiting for an author to have written it first.
- No gems on the good branch Loreon has no per-choice currency, so the romantic option, the risky option and the honest option are all just options. Subscriptions open the library, never a line of dialogue.
- On your phone or in a browser Install the Android app from Google Play, or play instantly in any browser. Same stories, same progress.
- Play in your language English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Japanese, with more on the way.
Other apps like Episode
No single app fits everyone. Here’s an honest shortlist so you can match how you like to read.
- 01 Loreon Our pick Type your own lines into authored, illustrated stories with no gems and no pass timers. Best if the written options never quite say what you meant.
- 02 Episode An enormous community catalogue with character customization and hand-drawn art. Best for endless choice-driven drama if the pass timers don’t bother you.
- 03 Choices: Stories You Play Pixelberry’s polished romance and mystery books, gated by keys and diamonds. Best for high-production episodic series with a fixed release cadence.
- 04 Chapters: Interactive Stories A similar library of romance-first interactive novels. Best if you want more of the same format with a different catalogue.
Common questions
Does Loreon lock choices behind a currency, the way gem choices work?
No. No option inside a scene costs more than another — there is no equivalent of a gem choice, so the romantic branch and the risky branch are simply branches. Loreon does meter play rather than paywall it: turns spend actions, with a free daily allowance and larger amounts on a subscription, and story keys permanently unlock stories in your collection. The difference that matters is that we never price one branch of a scene above another.
Can I really type anything, or is it multiple choice like Episode?
You can type anything. Free-text input is how every Loreon story is played — you write what your character says or does and the narrator responds to it. Suggested choices sit next to the input box for when you want a nudge, not instead of it.
Is there art, like Episode’s characters and outfits?
Turning points are illustrated in each world’s own art style, so scenes arrive with a mood as well as words. It is not the same feature as Episode’s dress-up and character customization, which Loreon does not have.
What is Episode better at?
Three things, honestly. Its catalogue is far larger, because tens of thousands of authors write for it. It has character customization and outfit collecting, which Loreon has no equivalent of. And a patient reader can finish a story there for free by waiting out the passes, whereas Loreon’s full library is a subscription.
Is Loreon free?
Loreon is free to start, and signed-in players get a daily allowance of actions to keep playing with. Beyond that daily pace, and for the full library, there are subscriptions and one-time packs; see the pricing page for the current plans.
What languages does Loreon support?
English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Japanese today, with more planned.
